After serving as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable U.S. District Judge Charles Schwartz, Jr., Jack C. Benjamin began practicing with a firm that focused primarily on admiralty law. Over the past 20 years, Jack’s practice has become quite diverse. He has handled a variety of claims arising under marine and land based settings. Jack has addressed compliance issues and evaluated the limits of governmental regulations and statutes. He has drafted and negotiated contracts and assessed oil, gas, and mineral leases for select clients. He has litigated insurance coverage issues and disputes over complex defense and indemnity obligations. He has resolved cases involving evolving technologies. He also has handled casualty, commercial and construction cases, and cases involving property damage and premises liability, as well as numerous issues arising from motor vehicle collisions and commercial truck accidents. Jack has defended hundreds of personal injury actions and resolved cases involving collisions and allisions. He has made successful recoveries in subrogation matters and has advised clients on workers compensation issues. He has represented large publicly traded companies and family businesses in simple and complex, multi-party cases, and he routinely counsels clients concerning safety and risk. Having a business background prior to obtaining his law degree, Jack remains focused on efficiently resolving disputes for clients.
Jack is licensed to practice in Louisiana and in Texas and has tried cases in state and federal courts and has also argued before the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal.
For more than a decade, Jack has maintained Martindale-Hubbell’s highest available AV rating with a 5.0/5.0 peer review rating and has consistently been selected as a Louisiana Super Lawyer 2011-2017. Each year, no more than 5% of the lawyers in the state are selected by the research team at Super Lawyers to receive this honor.
Jack’s extra-curricular activities have included leadership positions on many civic, religious, and professional boards. He currently serves as President of the New Orleans Bar Association Inn of Court and Secretary for the Metropolitan Crime Commission. Jack is married to Jennifer Hanley Benjamin and enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children.
