Ralph Breaux has more than twenty-seven years of litigation experience. For several years, he represented one of the largest commercial general contractors located in Louisiana in defense of claims for property damage caused by its construction of large municipal and commercial projects. He has also handled a large number of admiralty and maritime claims, construction defect claims, first and third party homeowner’s claims, CGL claims, and claims involving tractor-trailer accidents and serious injuries. Mr. Breaux’s experience in automobile and personal lines litigation includes litigating bad faith claims arising out of first and third party claims handling and failure to defend claims, as well as other uninsured motorist, automobile, CGL, and homeowners coverage issues. Mr. Breaux has participated in numerous trials in state and federal courts involving serious automobile accidents, as well as commercial and homeowner’s claims, most notably those in which an arson defense was raised.
In connection with Mr. Breaux’s practice over the last twenty-seven years, he has written numerous appellate briefs and applications for supervisory and remedial writs to all Courts of Appeal for Louisiana, the Louisiana Supreme Court, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Breaux has also argued appellate matters before the First, Fourth and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeal. In addition to Louisiana state courts, Mr. Breaux has been admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Before joining the Perrier & Lacoste family, Mr. Breaux was a partner in a local insurance defense firm, providing full service representation to insurance and corporate clients in the United States and Europe. In his capacity as a partner, Mr. Breaux managed and counseled a team of litigators located in the firm’s Baton Rouge office. Mr. Breaux is currently a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the New Orleans Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Bar Association of the Federal Fifth Circuit, the New Orleans Association of Defense Counsel, and Themis Advocates Group. Mr. Breaux has also received Martindale-Hubbell’s highest AV rating with a 5.0/5.0 peer rating and has been selected as a Louisiana Super Lawyer.
Mr. Breaux enjoys spending time with his family, which includes his lovely wife, Gretchen, and five children. Mr. Breaux particularly enjoys traveling to spend weekends with his youngest daughter, who attends LSU, and watching his two youngest sons, both of whom attend Jesuit High School, at their numerous sporting events, including lacrosse and sailing. Mr. Breaux also spends considerable time volunteering his services on the boards of his church and his children’s schools, as well as on various committees for fundraising events on behalf of numerous local social and charitable organizations. As a result of these efforts, Mr. Breaux and his wife, Gretchen, both received the 2011 Order of St. Louis IX Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans, one of the highest and most cherished honors bestowed by the local Church on a member of the laity, in recognition of their dedication and years of volunteer service.
